PEDAGOGICAL PHILOSPHY

The arc of my research deeply informs my teaching. Examining communities that have been marginalized under intersecting and overlapping systems of racial, gender, and cisheterosexual hegemony demands a similarly decolonial, feminist, and queer pedagogy. My goal as a teacher is to empower students of all backgrounds, create informed citizens, and inspire transformative political imaginations.

WGS 3100 (Intro to WGS Theory) Feedback

"This has been one of my favorite courses and I really appreciate the care put into it. It’s one of the few gender and sexuality course I’ve taken that as a trans woman felt really cared about the subject matter came from a place of deeper and understanding of issues in our community.”

02

WGS 3305 (Issues in LGBTQ+ Studies) Feedback

"The topics of the course, with how the overarching topic of the class would be delved into, was absolutely nothing like I expected. I expected a baseline sort of class, simply covering the laundry list of issues within the community and what different identities consisted of, with a little bit of history thrown in. However, what the course actually was was so much better, opening up lines of thought I could never have imagined before, discussing the root problems and the soil those roots grew in. It is a class I have recommended to several people already, and think anyone mildly interested in the topic should take."

WGS 3559 (Sex and Resistance on the Internet) Feedback

"Professor Gonzales is a treasure to have at this university. Although this course challenged my foundational understandings of gender, race, and sexuality, I feel so complete personally and academically through her lectures. I am so glad I had the opportunity to have her as a teacher and garner a better understanding of wgs studies from someone who passionate and invigorating."
